Successful intervention requires the monitoring of individual behaviors over time and a concentrated focus on individual responsibility, choice, and accountability. Below is general information on what we recommend for DVIP (formerly known as batterers intervention programs, or BIP) as well as what to keep in mind when referring a person to attend DVIP. Please note, anger management is not an appropriate or effective intervention for domestic violence offenders.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_text_4 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h3>The Evidence is Clear:<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>National research shows that<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>over 80% of survivors<\/b>\u00a0want the person causing harm to receive help changing their behavior, rather than face punishment alone.\u00b9<\/li>\n<li>Well-designed DVIPs that are<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and coordinated with survivor advocacy<\/b>\u00a0reduce the likelihood of future violence and increase survivors\u2019 long-term safety and well-being.\u00b2<\/li>\n<li>Studies demonstrate that participants who complete certified DVIPs are<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>less likely to reoffend<\/b>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>more likely to accept responsibility<\/b>, and<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>develop increased understanding of the impact of their actions<\/b>\u00a0on partners and families.\u00b3<\/li>\n<li>Communities with integrated DVIP and survivor services experience<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>lower recidivism rates<\/b>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>stronger interagency coordination<\/b>, and<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>greater survivor satisfaction<\/b>\u00a0with justice outcomes.\u2074<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Cissner, A.
