Educating Abusive Partners about the Impact of Children Exposed to Intimate Partner Abuse
Research has found that the majority of children in domestically abusive homes are exposed to the abuse even if they are not directly targeted. Furthermore, the impact of that exposure can be as damaging to the children as being directly abused. Just as abusive partners can display significant denial about their abuse and control and its impact on their partner, they can also have significant denial on how any children present in the relationship might also be negatively affected. Increased understanding of the impact of abuse on children can provide additional motivation to stop their abuse. It can also expand their awareness of additional amends work that might be necessary once they have stopped their patterns of abuse and control. This one-day advanced training will provide a summary of how children who are exposed to intimate partner abuse can be negatively impacted, the longer-term consequences of such exposure, and techniques to raise awareness of the abusive partner about all of this.
