Post-Separation Abuse: Clinical Assessment and Intervention with Protective Parents and Children
Post-separation abuse is a frequently misunderstood and under-recognized form of ongoing coercive control that continues after a relationship has ended. This training explores how abusive dynamics shift and persist through systems such as family court, co-parenting structures, and child-related decision-making.
Participants will learn how to assess for patterns of coercive control beyond incident-based frameworks, differentiate high-conflict dynamics from abuse, and support protective parents navigating ongoing manipulation and system involvement. The training will also address clinical considerations when working with children who are exposed to these dynamics, including impacts on attachment, emotional safety, and loyalty conflicts.
Practical strategies will be provided for documentation, case conceptualization, and supporting both parent and child without inadvertently reinforcing harmful narratives.
